Who Do You Serve?

📖 Scripture: Matthew 6:19–34
✨ Key themes: Treasure, Vision, Worry, and Trusting God’s Provision

In this study through Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us the “DO NOTs” of discipleship—commands that reveal His heart for our freedom. He warns us not to store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but to pursue eternal rewards that cannot be stolen. He reminds us that our eyes set the course of our whole life, and divided loyalty between God and wealth is impossible: “You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Jesus also addresses one of our greatest struggles—worry. He points us to the birds of the air and the lilies of the field as living testimonies of God’s care. The antidote to anxiety is simple but profound: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

This passage calls us to examine where our hearts are, what our eyes are fixed on, and whom we truly serve. Do we chase security in wealth, possessions, and control—or do we trust our Heavenly Father who knows our needs before we ask?

Paul echoes this truth in Philippians 4: “Be anxious for nothing… and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” True discipleship means learning to be content in Christ, to let our peace strengthen others, and to trust God’s “much more” when the worries of life press in.

Every moment of worry is an invitation to look up—to the cross, to creation, to eternity—and remember that this world is not our home.
