The Truth About “Judge Not”

📖 Scripture: Matthew 7:1–6
✨ Key themes: Judgement, Sin, and Grace
In this passage, Jesus confronts one of our deepest struggles—judging others. The command “Judge not, that you be not judged” is one of the most quoted verses in the Bible, yet often misunderstood. Jesus isn’t telling us to ignore sin, but to deal with our own first. When we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal and remove the “plank” from our eyes, we can then see clearly to help our brothers and sisters with the “specks” in theirs.
We are reminded that righteous judgment belongs to Christ alone, who holds the Book of Life. Our calling is not to condemn, but to extend the same grace we have received. Within the church, this means humbly confronting sin in love, recognizing our own need for mercy first. And when sharing the gospel, Jesus warns us to use discernment, entrusting the Spirit to open hearts that are ready to receive.
True discipleship is not about pretending to be perfect—it’s about letting Christ’s grace transform us so that we can love and build one another up in truth.
